Our Herstory

I.gif - 292 Bytesn the Beginning...

It wasn't easy to choose just one photo from each month to tell our story!

Sheku with clipping
JANUARY 2001

Sheku spotted an article in the Toronto Star. Her daughter, Caitlin, investigated the Red Hat Society web site. Sheku called Karis, and they contacted a few friends to present the idea. The search for purple dresses and red hats took a couple of months.

The rest, as they say, is herstory!

APRIL 2001

Vice-Regal Mother, Karis, and Queen Mother, Sheku, held court at the Inaugural Red Hat Tea held at Langdon Hall, Cambridge ON.

MAY 2001

In the garden at Cheryl's beautifully restored (Arts Council award winning) century home in Guelph. (That's Cheryl, on the right.)

We came for a tour after having tea at "The Boathouse" overlooking the river in downtown Guelph.

JUNE 2001

On our first visit to Crystal's Tea Room we saw that Crystal already had a copy of the "Warning" poem, AND a dress-up closet containing at least one red hat and purple dress! A kindred spirit!

She also had a wide selection of teas and baked up amazing treats for us... We knew we would be back!

JULY 2001

Another visit to Crystal's Tea Room.

Catch Donelda's red "f-m" shoes!
(If you have to ask, you don't want to know!)

AUGUST 2001

On the stairs up to Crystal's Dress-Up Closet. Today Suzanne (top) got a feather in her hat - it keeps evolving.

SEPTEMBER 2001

Langdon Hall welcomes us back.
Someone forgot to tell Diane about the "full regalia" - ooops!

OCTOBER 2001

Diane found a fabulous red hat at Southwinds Antiques, and Donelda brought one back from Savannah.
Meet Karen (white collar, pink hat) our new Junior Postulant!.

NOVEMBER 2001

Eighteen of us filled the Picket Fence Café in Ayr when we gathered to choose a name for ourselves. Then we registered to become an "Official Chapter" of the Red Hat Society .

Diane invited us all back to her lovely home on the river for a celebratory brandy.

DECEMBER 2001

Hoda demonstrates the use of the Samovar at Les Diplomates, a B&B in Waterloo. Thanks to her sponsorship of our Christmas Tea, the Raspberry Tarts were inspired to make a cash donation to Anselma House, a local shelter for women and children fleeing violence.
