The Raspberry Tarts present: Although our primary focus is on having fun, we are sometimes moved to "give back" to our community by doing some special project that will combine fun and positive action.
In any group of women who know each other well enough to be open about such things, you will hear stories that could break your heart, and you will come to recognize the survivors as true heroes. There are many such heroes among the Raspberry Tarts. So, for 2006, we have decided to turn our attention to the issue of ending violence against women, with a production of Eve Ensler's "The Vagina Monologues" on March 3 and 4, 2006.
By putting on this V-Day event, The Raspberry Tarts will join the ranks of the Vagina Warriors. V-Day is a global movement to end violence against women and girls that raises funds and awareness through benefit productions of Playwright/Founder Eve Ensler's award-winning play "The Vagina Monologues." In 2005, more than 2500 V-Day events took place in the US and around the world. To date, V-Day has raised over $30 million and educated millions about the issue of violence against women and the efforts to end it; crafted international educational, media and PSA campaigns; reopened shelters; funded safe houses in Kenya, south Dakota, Egypt and Iraq, and over 5000 community-based anti-violence programs. The "V" in V-Day stands for Victory, Valentine and Vagina. You can find more information at www.vday.org. The play will be presented at the Waterloo Entertainment Centre (formerly Waterloo Stage Theatre) at 24 King Street North, Waterloo, ON. This location is close to lots of excellent restaurants and parking. If you decide to come and make a day of it, there is great shopping just 5 minutes away at the village of St. Jacob's and the St. Jacob's Outlet Mall, as well as the shops of Uptown Waterloo on both King and Regina streets.
A limited number of souvenir copies of the "Fifty-Plus and Fabulous" 2005 Charity Calendar will also be available in exchange for a donation of $5 or more. We are currently seeking sponsors and advertisers who would like to help by posting a business card size ad in our program or just making a donation. If you are interested in sponsoring our project please click here. Sponsors will also be advertised on our website.
